There is an urgent need to take action against human-induced climate change based on scientific evidence!
Water is the most important natural resource on Earth as it is vital for life. Our existence and well-being depend on the health and well-functioning of aquatic ecosystems. But the world's water resources are currently facing the greatest threat in human history. Human-induced climate change is accelerating the degradation of aquatic ecosystems and the services they provide. Oceans, reefs, rivers, lakes and wetlands are the most affected worldwide.
Scientists in the environmental, social and economic fields are now jointly warning of a severe ecological and humanitarian crisis with global repercussions, unless worldwide concerted climate actions are implemented urgently. Their statement summarises the most important scientific findings on the effects of climate change on aquatic ecosystems. These findings highlight why decision-makers must act now and launch concerted actions.
