The Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB)

Researching for the Future of Our Waters

The Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) is located on the shore of Lake Müggelsee in Berlin.

The Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) is a creative, lively, and diverse place for research and teaching. At our locations in Berlin and Neuglobsow, scientists from a wide range of disciplines work under one roof. Hydrologists, chemists, physicists, microbiologists, limnologists, fish ecologists, and fisheries biologists from around the world study the fundamental processes in rivers, lakes, and wetlands and jointly develop measures for sustainable water management.

We think beyond disciplinary and spatial boundaries because solutions to the major challenges of the future can only be developed through integrative research approaches.
